A police officer in Jeju, South Korea, has sparked significant controversy by repeatedly closing missing person cases prematurely. The Jeju Provincial Police Agency stated today that the officer, identified as Sergeant A, admitted to falsely closing cases due to a heavy workload; however, the police have since uncovered another 25 suspected instances of such misconduct.
According to a Yonhap News Agency report, the Jeju Provincial Police Agency held an official briefing today prior to referring Sergeant A to the prosecution. During the briefing, it was revealed that the officer admitted to taking the cases lightly because the missing individuals were ordinary adults. He explained that he resorted to falsely closing the cases because keeping them open entailed a heavy administrative burden and the prospect of handing them over to another officer felt overwhelming.
